So it is a must that you treat your skin well every day especially to those with oily skin. Oily skin is characterized by a greasy appearance, enlarged pores and is usually prone to blackheads.

There are various skin care products out there claiming that they are medically proven to regulate our overproductive sebaceous glands. We have plenty to choose from cleansing creams, vitamins, facial wash, soap, lotion, clarifying mask and a whole lot to mention in the market.
However, the important thing is that you must be familiar with what is oily skin, its causes and the internal and external ways to care to it. This step is very easy as you perceive it. All you have to do is read educational books or pretty stress-free browse the internet for information. Then, evaluate these products individually and compare them by reading the label for ingredients used, warnings and vitamin content of the product in the store.

Although oily skin is an advantage to slow aging, it still can occur at any age. Teenage is the earliest age prone to oily skin. Several causes to this are emotional and physical stress, lack of enough sleep and hormonal imbalance such as womens menstrual cycle.

Oily Skin Production

Researchers believe that stress causes the upregulation of the neuropeptides in our skin which controls the sebum, (oil) production. If the excess oil is not released out of the hair follicles on our skin, bacteria will then be trapped. Inflammation follows which we call acne.

According to the National Institutes of Health, eating foods rich in vitamin A too much could trigger oily skin. However, there are vitamin A derivatives which you could consider to combat excessive oil production like adapalene, tazarotene and tretinoin. Avoid eating fatty foods like chocolate, butter, fish and oils. These foods contain natural oils.

Prevention

There are specific vitamins that could help avoid excess production of sebum, our skin oil. Vitamins C, D and B complex are also essential to prevent the increase of oil and maintain beautiful and healthy skin. Frequent washing, proper diet and physical activity every day can also help normalize our skin hormones.

Recommended Skin Care Products

Alcohol based creams and lotions are most recommended by doctors. On the other hand, several makeup artists recommend the use of hydrating moisturizers or water based make up which is free of oil. In this way, the skin is not irritated. Over the counter cosmetic especially benzoyl peroxide is so far the most valued treatment for oily skin.

However it is still highly recommended that you visit your dermatologist regularly and seek professional advice in treating your skin problem.
